# 1          BURN TRAILER

For: All Fire Service Personnel

Turnout Gear & SCBA required

This course will cover the methods of attacking incipient one room and contents fire in residential structures.  Students will have the opportunity to work as a team in attacking fires in a structure setting. No Facial hair allowed. OHSA Regs.

Morning and afternoon sessions.  3 HRS.

# 2          AIR BAG SAFETY – RESTRAINT AIR BAGS

Turnout Gear required

This class will provide a brief overview of the operation and hazards associated with vehicle restraint air bags.  Many firefighters and other first responders have been injured due to unexpected deployment of air bags while performing extrication.  This class will provide excellent information regarding air bags and their deployment. 3 HRS  am

# 3          AUTO EXTRICATION

For: All Fire & Rescue Personnel

Turnout Gear required

Learn about extrication tools and hydraulic equipment tools and techniques.  An important segment of this class is it may call for extensive hands-on skills.  Practice utilizing realistic scenarios.  Learn vehicle stabilization, basic and advanced extrication techniques and patient care during extrication.                                              3 HRS pm

# 4          ETHANOL AND FLEXIBLE FUELS

The good the bad and the ugly of ethanol.  It’s passing though you area every day. Flexible fuel cars, tankers and at your local gas station. Discussion of: Properties of Ethanol, dangers in response to incidents, Who to call for information and how to suppress ethanol. Discussion of use of foam. 3 HRS

# 5         USE OF CLASS A & B FOAM AND NOZZLES

Full Turnout Gear Needed!

This course will discuss the properties of foam, foam streams and nozzles, use of a foaming agents for Class A and B fires and equipment maintenance. Student activity will be suppression of Class B fire with use of foam.    3 HRS

6-Hour Courses

# 6        Chief’s ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION TOPICS

This includes round-table discussions on topics such as mutual aid, paging protocol, 800 meg. Fire Training: how the Training and Education board may affect your department. Communications, command post operations, OSHA regulations, fire department management, grants, terrorism and any other topics brought up.     6 HRS

# 7        WILDLAND FIRE TACTICS

Turnout gear required

Representatives from the USFW service will discuss  

Grassland fire suppression, interagency operations. Specialized equipment used for Wildland fires will be utilized. Practice burn in afternoon session.   6 HRS

# 8         RAPID INTERVENTION TACTICS

& FIREFIGHTER RESCUE   (RIT)

Turnout Gear & SCBA required

Rapid Intervention Teams are utilized in all fire/rescue emergencies for the safety of all response personnel.  Learn how to implement OSHA and NFPA 1500 guidelines for your RIT Team.  We will also provide an overview of ‘On Deck,’ a resource management tool for firefighter safety.          6 HRS

# 9        BASIC PUMP OPERATIONS

For: All Firefighters and Drivers

Full Turnout Gear Needed! 

This course will discuss the rules and regulations of emergency vehicle operations, vehicle dynamics of   fire apparatus. Large volume pumping and drafting. Classroom, driving range and pump  time for each attendant.                              6 HRS

 

# 10        IMPORTANCE OF VENTILATION 

Full Turnout Gear Needed

This course will discuss the theory, importance and timing of venting the hot gasses and smoke from a structure. Positive pressure, negative pressure and natural ventilation tactics will be demonstrated.  The Ridgewater College vent trailer will be on scene for students to practice safe venting practices.

# 11        BASIC AND ADVANCED SEARCH AND RESCUE TACTICS

Full Turnout Gear Needed And SCBA

This course will cover search procedures for victims in confined space areas (smoke filled structures), safety procedures for searcher and removal of victims. Students will participate in mock searches in zero visibility situations.                            6 HRS
